Here are some tips to do so effectively.

Gauge your subject's suggestibility

Try to test if your subject is suggestible first, for example by doing a simple test where they can't move their hand, or feeling their hand rising into the air. You could also test for things like amnesia or visual hallucinations, though those tend to be harder especially in the beginning.

Keep it simple

It's easier to have one trigger do just one thing first, especially if you are working with someone you're not that familiar with yet. For example, a drop trigger should only drop the subject. Also, think about what could be a good basis for what comes next. The drop trigger could be a lead in to other triggers, or even associations for what comes next.

One new trigger at a time

Ideally, one or two new triggers maximum during each session would be easier to start with. This would be easier to keep track of.

Link it with a reward

"Every time I say X, you would feel Y" - where Y is a pleasant sensation of your choice. If you are specific about Y, it will work better. This could be specific in the type of sensation or the body part you want them to feel it in. For example, instead of "feeling good", you could go for:

"feeling like you've just taken a hot bath"

"feeling a sense of achievement"

"you will feel a hand patting your head soothingly"

"you will feel a tingling on your hand"

It could also simply be praise, or their favourite form of degradation. Or both - for example, saying that they're "a good little toy for me" can be both praise and degradation. It doesn't have to be tied to a trigger for it to be pleasant.

Link it with other triggers

If there are other triggers already there, you could use them together to create a complete experience. I suggest using a basic reward trigger and use it as a phrase for positive reinforcement. For example, having "good girl" as a reward phrase, and when the subjects react to the new triggers, using that old one to reward the subject.

Test that it works

During the session, keep using the trigger and listen or watch out for your subject's reactions to see if they work. If it's not working as well as intended, that's okay - have the subject describe how it feels to you and work from there.

Keep repeating the trigger

Keep emphasizing and practicing the trigger with your subject. Remind the subject of the intended effect, and go into specific details of what kind of effect it should have. You could also suggest that the trigger becomes easier and more automatic each time as it is used more and more.

Let the subject choose

On the other hand, if you would like to take a "softer" approach, you can use a trigger and keep it vague. For example, in the "feel good" trigger above, don't specify how it should feel like, but get the subject to explain how it feels to you. From there, you can choose to build it up alongside the subject, making this approach more collaborative. Encouraging subjects to introspect also helps them to focus deeper on the trance.

Conditioned response

You can also ask the subject to purposefully recreate the sensation you want, and then eventually it will become automatic, similar to classical conditioning. I've had this work for a "drop" trigger where the subject simply pretended to go into trance by flopping down and relaxing their body. But, it eventually became real - I executed the trigger once without warning, and the subject's body flopped on cue.

Be consistent

It is ideal to have a session at least once a week to practice the same triggers. Anecdotally, it takes about one month of weekly sessions for subjects to get used to going into trance easily. Depending on the subject, triggers may never stick at all after the session, but you will find installing them each time easier and easier.

Trigger by association

With enough repetition it would be easy to have subjects start dropping just from shifting into the right tone of voice as a hypnotist. So sometimes you do not need explicit triggers to get a certain result.

Be safe

Only have the triggers work with trusted people and only when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Have fun!

Approach this with a mindset of play and exploration, and inviting the subject to see what would happen when a trigger is used. This takes pressure off any "performance" required and can help you both to enjoy the process.

[Paid subs only] Findom

This file makes you feel happy and fulfilled whenever you tribute me. Below I list some of the big ones, and how you can get started.

Groundwork

Not only hypnosis

For any hobby to turn into a career or business, you'd not only need to know about the hobby itself, but also have some business sense and a marketing strategy. The same goes for hypnosis. You need to know who your target customers are, and how to reach them too.

For any path that interests you below, do check out what it'll be like to go down that path and observe and talk to people who have done something similar.

In summary, it's usually a combination of hypnosis + business/marketing strategy + your skillset. Some are more inclined to writing; others like audio or video better.

Other concerns

Would it make you lose interest in hypnosis as a hobby?

Success is not going to come overnight. Are you able to keep doing this professionally after 5, 10 years?

How will you keep growing on this path? Do you have a plan or rough idea of how each milestone looks like?

Could it conflict with any other jobs or roles you may hold?

What are the tax implications of doing this, since as it's most likely going to be considered self-employment?

Hypnotherapy

Getting certification

There are a few places you can get certification. Do check with your local authorities on how to get certified, what is accepted and whether there are courses in your area. The ICCHP also offers an online course that looks reliable.

Setting up a practice

It'll take time and business skills to set things up proper - you need to know both hypnosis AND marketing but once that gets rolling, usually it gets spread by word of mouth. You could do this either online or physically; I'd suggest online to reduce costs, at least at first.

Paid recreational hypnosis

Some people have their own website and space, others - like Sweet - host it on a website like NiteFlirt. You could also try your luck on the hypnosis Discord servers floating around, though those tend to run young (and thus inconsistent). I've had some luck doing a few paid sessions over Discord. You'd need to find clients, similar to hypnotherapists.

Creating media

The subscription model

As far as I know, Shibby is one of the more successful hypnotists in the scene (in terms of revenue per month). At the time of writing, her Patreon is earning a whopping US$35,000/month. Of course, she has a team behind her helping her with the audio at this amount of money each month. Secret Subject is also doing well - you could guess roughly from the "most popular" option, multiplied by the number of subscribers. You can take a look to see what they did to create these kinds of numbers, and how long it took. Master Jay is another example.

For a subscription platform, I personally like using Ghost instead of something like Patreon, because it's open source and doesn't take as big a cut of your earnings, plus you own your data. One downside is that you have to sign up with each creator separately; it's not like Patreon where everything is consolidated together.

Session recordings

I've noticed some subjects use session recordings as a way to get some cash from this hobby. I've most frequently seen this from people specialising in hypno porn (milku bunny is an example).

Files

You could create files in any medium:

Text

Audio

Video

Games

While some games can be considered as files, it requires extra skill to be able to make an interactive one. Some people sell hypnosis games online as well; I've written elsewhere about these. Making games may require some level of programming knowledge. If you are making a text-based, choose your own adventure game, you can take a look at Twine.

Stories

EbonCaine has some stories up for sale at Smashwords. You could look into different websites to sell your stories, and even host them on Patreon or something like Ghost. GigglingGoblin does just that on Patreon.

Art

Some people also draw comics or take commissions for hypnosis-related art. This could be fun and also rewarding - take a look around on DeviantArt or HypnoHub for some examples.

Accessories

Some people have had some luck selling pendants and other devices related to hypnosis, though these tend to just be normal handicrafts repurposed for hypnosis.

Ad revenue

There are also ways to monetise your content with ads - either by working with companies or by using a service like Brave Creators.

Educational Content

Books

I've seen Sleepingirl have some good success with her shop (she does books and podcasts and games and...), and of course, there's always the classic Mind Play by Mark Wiseman, along with other books that many have published.

Courses

There are live or video courses created by some in the community; an example by Hypno Hedonista is linked here.

Passive Income

You should also think about how passive some of these routes are. Some of them - such as creating an article that can be shared - can be considered "passive income" as in, after you've done the initial work, you don't need to create it again to benefit from it. Others - such as sessions - take time, and can't be used again next time (you need just as much time for the next session). Depending on what you enjoy more and how much interaction you want with other people, you could choose any mix that can be comfortable for you.

Other paths

Instead of offering anything hypnosis related yourself, you could also offer services to people who are in the hypnosis community:

Recording and sound engineering work

Videography work

Creating media/crafts/equipment

Setting up their subscription platform or payments platform for them

Writing up code for games

Closing remarks

These are just some ideas to get you started; pick a few that you're the most interested in and spend some time experimenting with them. I've also seen more guides on other kinds of sessions than text sessions. However, it is still worthwhile to learn another medium.

Introduction

Text hypnosis is much like regular hypnosis, and have the same broad strokes as hypnosis in any other medium. While you may not be able to make full use of all the tools available to you as a hypnotist, such as your voice, or physical gestures, it's still fun to explore, and can be a good way to start out.

Pros and Cons

Why do this?

There are a few reasons why someone might choose the text medium:

Hone their skills in many different mediums

As a hypnotist, you have a bit more time to think, which makes it easier and potentially requires less effort than voice, video or in-person (from my experience)

Lower-risk for hypnotist and subject - you don't reveal as much details on either side. Some people are more shy as well.

Some phenomena are easier to achieve with text - having italicised words go straight to their subconscious, or phantom touch

Enables casual hypnotic interactions throughout the day outside of a formal session, if desired, via text triggers or hypnotic language.

Why not do this?

Trances tends to be less deep

Less channels of feedback from the subject

Not as rewarding as other forms of hypnosis sessions

Some inductions don't work as well in this medium, such as eye fixation inductions (since you need to get them to read your words), or instant inductions

Tips

It's not very different from a regular session

The hypnotist should still make sure the subject has drank enough water, and are in a good place to continue

The hypnotist should still give the subject as much of their attention as possible

The subject should still be able to make time for the session, and also pay attention and follow along as much as they can.

This is not the same as a text file, so it should be treated as a full session.

Text-specific pacing

Try to break up your text into smaller, shorter lines, so that it's easier to read, ideally about 5-7 words maximum.

You can still use pauses for a similar effect.

You can include spirals, but they will be pushed upwards by any other text you type into the chat.

Suggestions for having a more responsive subject

Include some suggestions for the subject to be able to keep their eyes open so that they can read your words, such as "your eyes will remain open as you go deeper, and process my words automatically and easily"

Try to ensure that the subject is always able to respond to you, either by suggesting something like the above, and "no matter how deep you go, you'll always be able to respond to me", "you'll feel your fingers automatically typing for me", and so on.

Always check in and ask the subject questions during different times in the trance.

Be interactive

Prompt for responses occasionally, and wait for their response before continuing. Don't worry if there's a lag in the response - people tend to respond more slowly when they are deeper in trance.

Sample session structure

Pretalk - talk about limits, and anything they'd want to experience while in trance. I personally also like to mention roughly exactly what I'm planning on doing with the subject.

Induction - start to bring them down with an induction, alongside any deepeners.

Hypnotic phenomena - simple suggestion to confirm that they're hypnotised.

Safety suggestions - suggestions to always keep themselves safe and speak out when it's uncomfortable

Having fun - time to go wild. I like to intersperse suggestions with deepeners/fractionation to make it interesting. Triggers can also be included here, and any other things to be explored.

Awakener - bring the person back up to consciousness

Aftercare - check in with the subject, whether they need more counting up, and any feedback, good or bad

Resources

I've included a full sample session below, based off of the ones that I've had before.
